FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • How long does it take to build a boathouse or dock?

    Boathouses and docks can vary on timelines due to the endless configurations that can be achieved. Once a permit is approved and work commences, a typical boathouse can take from 3 to 6 weeks to complete.

  • Can I add a bathroom to my boathouse?

    Per TRWD guidelines, bathrooms are not allowed for health reasons.

  • What makes your boathouses better than your competitors?

    Our attention to detail is unparalleled. We employ the same tools and methods that are used in home construction. Each boathouse we construct is built as close to square as humanly possible and just like a house, its only as good and strong as its foundation. There are no corners cut and we pride ourselves in that. We use the most sophisticated laser technology to ensure each boathouse is built to exact specifications.

  • What are my decking options?

    Decking options are pressure treated lumber, tier 1 through 5 composite material as well as aluminum. The best material would be aluminum as it doesn’t rust or corrode.

  • What type of roof can I have on my boathouse?

    Roofing options can vary from a simple gabled style composition (shingle) roof or a party deck with railing. Weve even installed jump gates and waterslides.

  • Are there restrictions on where I can build my boathouse?

    The placement of the boathouse is at the discretion of Tarrant regional water district. Each property with its respective property lines actually extend into the lake. TRWD determines where the best and safest placement of the newly built boathouse can be. Of course there are exceptions, which are on a case by case basis. Each permit is submitted with our “proposed” build plan. A question not asked the answer is always no!

  • Are you licensed and insured?

    We are insured and bonded with TRWD as our certificate holder. I am a licensed contractor in Gun Barrel City, Texas with nearly 25 years in the marine industry.

  • What is the longevity of a boathouse?

    A basic boathouse can be expected to last 25+ years. If optioned for composite or aluminum, they can last 50+.

  • What is the difference between a boathouse and a dock?

    Theres no difference in a boathouse and a boat dock. There is a difference in a boathouse and a pier. A pier doesn’t have the ability to harbor a boat or water craft. They are simply decks that are built over the water and used commonly for fishing and swimming etc.

  • How do I know if my retaining wall is failing?

    If you notice any signs of erosion, hearing the sound of wave action or water under your sidewalk or yard. This may include the property developing cracks that eventually cause the property to shear off and fall into the lake. If a boathouse is attached to an already failing wall, it can collapse along with it destroying everything in it’s path.
